Everything about this movie is flawless!

Black Swan

I saw this movie tonight and it is now among my top 5 films (I’d even say top 3).

The animation is gorgeous and distinctive. While characters themselves have a flat appearance, reminding me of The Powerpuff Girls, but the rest of the imagery is a combination of that flatness and beautiful layered imagery that also aids the engaging storytelling. Images flow and interlock between scenes. It is perfect given the story. I cannot recommend this film enough.

Sidenotes:

  1. I want a white kitty with one green eye and one blue eye…possibly an angora?
  2. Aisling is one of my favourite names.
  3. I desperately want to go back to Ireland. I didn’t have nearly enough time in the land of my ancestors.
  4. I need this on DVD.

Helena Bonham Carter looking FIERCE AS FUCK.  Apparently this is for some independent film she’s going to be that’s coming out soon.  I haven’t heard of it before so I dunno.

We watched this the other day for my Green Romanticism class. Most of my class hated it. They thought nothing happened, Fanny was unlikable, they thought there was too much “weird hand-holding” and they thought it was weird that her brother was always around.*

What part of it’s the early 19th century do they not understand? Sorry that not all love stories involve ripped bodices and not all films involve battles and zombies. Grow up.

Abby and I were really frustrated with them because we love the film. I’m also frustrated because I hate when people think that an English course doesn’t require an awareness of historical context.

*for the record, he was her chaperon.
