Myth and Madness ›

Christine O’Donnell is in a fantasy world. Literally.

The pretty Palin Mini-Me identifies with the women of Middle Earth, comparing herself to the female characters in the “Lord of the Rings” novels by J. R. R. Tolkien.

“Look at the significance that he gives to Eowyn, the Lady of Rohan,” O’Donnell said on C-Span in 2003. “She was a warrior spirit and, to me, that’s who I love. I mean, I aspire to be soft and gentle like Arwen, but realistically, I’m a fighter, like Eowyn.”

Fuck you Christine O’Donnell, you are no Eowyn.

Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by God and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

The Holy Quran (sura 9:29) - English Translation

This was quoted on Hannity last evening (yes, I check in from time to time… so you don’t have to… but you still should) in an effort to “show the murderous intent behind the religion of Islam.” That is not a direct quote from Sean Hannity, but I believe a fair paraphrase of the point of this new regular segment of his radio show.

I am stumped as to why such ridiculousness is considered by Christians in this country to be any fundamentally different than, say, Leviticus 26:7-8:

7And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

8And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

Honest question. Really. I don’t get it… I mean, other than your run-of-the-mill, typical, rank hypocrisy.

When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he’s the one who set up boundaries for the nations. National boundaries are set by God; he is the one who drew up the lines for the nations. If you have open borders you say, ‘God you goofed it all up.

Um…how ignorant do you have to be of history to believe this? Even remotely? Any given map is “correct” for two or three years, at most, after it’s published, even now. I’m flabbergasted by this statement.

Va. Lawmaker: Disabled Kids are God's Punishment for Abortion - Political Hotsheet - CBS News ›

badmansworld:stfusexists:(via robot-heart-politics)

Anyone who voted for this asshole can feel free to explain to disabled children that they are not only at a disadvantage in the world, but in fact punishments from God.

wow, real classy. also, at the end of the article it talks about him pushing people to support the denial of state fund for planned parenthood. DUMBEST thing ever. if you close down planned parenthood where do you think most women are going to get their bc? so they don’t have to risk an abortion? NOWHERE, asshole.

I was down there a month ago, before most of these talking heads were even paying attention to the Gulf. A month ago, I was meeting with the fishermen down there, standing in the rain, talking about what a potential crisis this could be. And I don’t sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar. We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.

President BARACK OBAMA, in an NBC news interview to air tomorrow on The Today Show.

Matt Drudge calls it “street.” The New York Times calls it “off-color language.” No, you assholes. It’s a President who, 50 days after British Petroleum fucked up the Gulf of Mexico, is pissed the fuck off.

What they said.

After weeks of screaming for Obama to show some emotion, then more emotion, right-wingers are now criticizing him for showing too much and in a “street” manner. No, no assholery or racism there! — Ryking

Complain Obama isn’t angry enough; provoke reaction; pull the “angry black man” card.  Self-fulfilling political prophecy.

Does anyone else smell that?  It’s the distinct odor of… Turd Blossom.

Radio station's giveaway angers immigrant groups | The Columbus Dispatch ›

UGH. In my home state too. The Columbus Ohio mayor does something admirable and these people have to be assholes.

"It comes down to the word illegal for me. It’s not a race thing. It’s a legal thing," he said. "If you’re breaking the law, it doesn’t matter where you’re from."

Naive much? The immigration process is a bureaucratic nightmare and isn’t a viable option for the desperately poor (poor due to lack of options, not laziness). It’s classist. And the Arizona law will inevitably lead to racial profiling because we all know what race the majority of immigrants there are. Classism will again be involved because maybe if a Hispanic person is dressed well enough they won’t be suspect. Or maybe people will assume they must be drug dealers to have that money.

Reform the immigration process; make it easier and more accesible to the hardworking poor and then energy can be focused on those who are commiting real crimes like theft and murder (a greatly exagerrated number).  As for those already here, put them on the grid with a temporary worker program so that they will have a legal status. The they will no longer be so exploited through sub-minimum wage, which will also help American citizens compete for those jobs.

Even from a practical standpoint this approach to the immigration problem is ridiculous. Don’t people realize how much money it would cost to deport or even jail all the illegal immigrants there are? Talk about deficits!
